NOTE: I tried to write everything in this entry with utmost objectiveness/unbiasedness without any discrimination leaning on who I like/dislike so please don't comment that I prejudiced your idol because of my emotion!!!!!!

Having seen thousands of cosplay photos thru internet, I never knew about these renowned cosplayers from the Philippines until I visited deviantArt (dA) more often and had an account there!!! Yes, if you are Filipino and attracted by manga/anime/cosplay/etc, you'll definitely know Jin Joson with Tuxedo (Tux) team and Alodia Gosiengfiao with her group. I bet these are the most popular cosplayers in the Philippines, who are now also known by (and actually become the idol of) many otakus in many other countries. Cosplay idols and net idols, that is.

JIN AND TUXEDO TEAM

Talking about Jin and Tux team, any newbie/oldghost on dA can easily find them through their arts since they are always in the top favorited (put as "popular" on dA) of ALL TIME. Any new arts will also be in the top favorited of the current time (day/week/month). Tux team comprises of Jin, China, Miguel and Kat. Jin's a Fine Art student majoring photography, but I don't know about the rest though. Jin, the spotlight of Tux team, is so popular on dA with about 2.4 million pageviews currently and like tens of thousands of watchers (it might be a few hundred thousand, who knows). Jin's been on dA since Dec 2005 under the name *behindinfinity. Jin's definitely one of the most loved with huge number of fans on dA. Jin's known under a few other names though, Nejin, Kenjin, and people in the Philippines also call Jin Jin-sama or Jin-neechan. I bet anyone seeing their photos for the first time would be deeply impressed. I won't say they are greatest cosplayers (since I've seen many better cosplayers before), but I'll say they have phenomenal cosplay photos. Really!!! Their wigs and costumes are just in the well-prepared cat, but the photo taking is superb. That's Fine Arts students for you! Okay, and one of the most important things is also the way Jin's face fits many male roles like Naruto, Ichigo etc.

Let's take a look at the two most successful photoshoot of Tux team: Bleach casual and Death Note.

Bleach casual: Since it's casual, they only had to make the hair and face to look like the characters, the costume is free (to a limit), but the effect is even far better than any Bleach cosplayers with Bleach costumes. Good wigs they have there, especially Ichigo's. Jin looked a lot like Ichigo, as well as China resembling Rukia. Geez, I really like the colorful photos.

This "Asterisk" photo is based on a piece of Bleach: All color but black Art book.

Death Note: I've never seen anyone looked like Light that much!!! And China being Misa is a great choice also. That IS how Misa's supposed to look like.

Naruto Art book and Naruto Shippuuden were also good.

Naruto Art book: Great Naruto cosplaying by Jin in Rokudaime costume, and sweet sweet sweet SasuSaku photos!!! <3 Miguel looks amazingly good in Sasuke's wig as always! He's got the best Sasuke version!

Some of their other cosplay photos: nice Kyon and Haruhi cosplay, very well-prepared Alice in wonderland, the rest: Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Jigoku Shoujo, Eva, FF8, Togainu no Chi and Yu Yu Hakusho are only so-so, not really good.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Logging on to Jin's dA journal, you'll be able to see many many more of their con photos and group outing photos, which are just as fun and great.

Tux's team's arts also have inspired so many people that they receive a whole lot of gift art. Check them out here! The famous =nekozumi was also inspired by them and draw a few gift art for Jin's group.

Jin and Tux team have so many fans that when each photo is out it goes into the top favorited right away (means so many people added it to their favorite list), which I find ridiculous. I won't just add any of their work to my fav list just because I'm their fan. They're generally good cosplayers doesn't mean they don't have so-so or even crappy cosplaying/cosplay photos. This is just the idol effect, i understand though.

One interesting thing about Jin is being-mistaken-for-the-other-gender-all-the-time. Hahah, anyway, I've got to say Jin's amazing at crossplaying. Jin doesn't seem to say about this matter and often mention about Nejin aka *ceruleanmorning as binary fission (so I won't say so detailed about this issue). Many people say Nejin is Jin's twin but FYI, binary fission in bacteria produce 2 daughter cells which are more than 99% identical in genotype and phenotype; identical twins in human (which sometimes referred as binary fission) MUST BE of the same gender and being >95% identical at the time of birth. And the chance of non-identical twin (different genders means non-identical twins, and also BEING ABSOLUTELY NOT binary fission) to resemble almost all traits to this level is probably less than 0.1%, or 0.01% maybe. Okay, hahah, never mind, I'm just being retarded and making some joke!!!! Hahah... Okay, anyway, i wanna say that (through all those), Jin did not actually say anything clearly, and Jin also has not say anything wrong (binary fission) about ...uhm... Jin's self (phew!)

Jin's group of friends seem to really enjoy cosplay, they're a great and fun group also. Cosplay seems to be the way they know each other also. I really envy you guys for having such good relationship and fun time together like that. Jin is even having Little Prince project which involves both cosplaying and photography. Isn't that great? When your great pastime actually help in your study??? Congrats, Jin. I really envy you once again :'(

Oh yeah, Jin's group is currently progressing a charity project which utilizes their cosplay photos to help a hospital in the Philippines. In short, they're gonna sell their cosplay photobook to gain money and give to the hospital. This is a great chance for us to have such a great photobook and do charity at the same time, so let's go here for this "Cosplay for a cause" information, and don't forget to pass by Jin's dA account for updates.

Okay, now that I'm done talking about Jin's group, here's

ALODIA AND HER GROUP

Alodia is popular in quite a different way. She's been called the Cosplay/Otaku/Gamer/etc Queen of the Philippines. She's a gorgeous girl who's really into games and often cosplay as game characters. Attractive and more involve in media eg. Animax (she won the Kawaii Girl contest of Animax Philippines), she's definitely the idol of many fanboys in the Philippines. She might has even better fan base than Jin. She's well-known on dA under the name *blackmage9 since Jan 2004, and had reached 1 million pageviews recently. Alodia also has a dA stock account ~alodia-stock which currently has about 70,000 pageviews. Here are some of her famous cosplay photos.

Here are game character cosplaying I suppose. Amazing level of well-prepared and detailed. I don't know if she looks like the characters though.
Photobucket

Photobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Alodia's costume was great but she doesn't look like Rikku.
Photobucket

Cosplaying doll seems to fit Alodia the most, since her face normally already looks a lot like a cute doll. Kinds of dolls will be good for her: French doll, Russian doll etc, but should not be dollfie (Asian Ball Jointed Doll) since ABJD mostly has mature faces, only very few kid types has round childlike cute faces like Alodia.
Photobucket

Not like Jin, Alodia mostly cosplay by herself, with the help of her photographer friend Tricia
who took almost all of those famous photos of Alodia. But recently, her group of friends organized a Death Note photoshoot, which comprises of herself, Ashley Gosiengfiao (her little sister), Cris Si, Jan Gabriel, Diego, Manansala, Rick Lo and Tricia as the photographer as usual. These Death Note cosplay photos are also lie in the top favorited of ALL TIME on dA. However, only the photo taking, Mello, Ryuuku and L were good. Misa was not very good, Near and Light were just bad. Misa's wig was good, the costume was good, but Alodia's face doesn't look like the way Misa is (((okay, back when I had never seen or known about Alodia, these Death Note cosplay photos were the first ones of her that I'd seen; and "she had the worst face shape to fit Misa among all Misa cosplayers I've ever seen" was all what I thought. If you're are used to Alodia's cosplay or love her, your first impression of these photos may be better, as I now also think they're not as bad as I thought back then))). And Alodia's legs look fat in this black costume (I don't understand, people often look slimmer in black!). Light's everything was bad. Near's just like Light. On the scale of 10, the best I can give their final cosplay effect is 6. Even though the cosplaying was not too bad actually, can say "okay" or "good" but it's not enough to be in the top popular. This is just like some of Jin's photos, the idol effect.
Photobucket

Photobucket

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Alodia has even many more gift arts. You can find them in any of her dA journal entries.

Apart from cosplaying, a point that makes Alodia different is that with her good body measurements, Alodia can be a good model for photos, and she is. Below are some photos by Tricia with Alodia as model, and they're gorgeous as ever. Geez, she's got great hair!
PhotobucketPhotobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucket

And this is another photo of Alodia, I think it's not her cosplaying anyone. The wigs was messy but then it was the most impressive point together with Alodia's pose to make this photo so beautiful and inspiring. Got to admit, this photo of Alodia has become one of my most favorite photos of all time (and yet, it's not in the top popular on dA, hahah).
Photobucket

As I said, Alodia has very good fan base and really loved by them. She is actually more popular than Jin (in some way), maybe more hard-core fans, but at the same time, she also involves more controversy and criticism. There are a few things about this cosplay queen, that had annoyed quite a lot of neutral people and anti-fans. As a neutral person, I think she should put these things into consideration (Alodia, come on and read this, I'm supporting you!).

1) Her videos on Youtube. Alodia's videos are also quite popular on youtube. Many people, especially her fans love her videos. But many also became annoyed. Her Youtube videos are all of her or her with friends (A for high level of original^^) playing some games, singing some song or her at some con. Most of her videos are actually quite fun and cute, as in my eyes and many other neutralers: The carameldansen or the Myanmar game etc. But the most bugging video is the Alodia - Lonely and Gorgeous . I've got to say that if you're not her fan, you're not used to the way she is, you're not proud of her, then this video is kinda annoying, with Alodia and Crissey of the same level. I actually commented that i don't like her that way, but then it got deleted.

2) Auction her own Alodia doll on her dA journal. The logic of making a doll oneself then sell or auction it is definitely normal and absolutely nothing wrong. But to Alodia, a still-small-star, making a doll of herself can't help people thinking that she's too full of herself. Maybe it's thanks to the previous secondhand psp auction. ((((This has led to the existence of a famous thread on The Man Blog Forum which was started by Darthlaurian saying about how "full of herself to make an Alodia doll for auction". This thread has become one of the most popular on this forum, which was filled with moderate to harsh criticism towards Alodia, but also doesn't lack Alodia's supporters. And everything seemed to stop with the appearance of Alodia's mum saying something very polite but off-topic (about inviting her mum to some reunion) to the thread starter - Darthlaurian. The thread got lamer and lamer and got locked.)))) The doll was sold at $297.33, an amazing price for  that kind of doll. Being a popular person, you've got to be more careful, Alodia.
Photobucket

As many people know, Alodia has a little sister named Ashley. Despited of Alodia's constant look of a princess with thick make-up, shaped eyebrow and well-cared hair, Ashley looks very simple, NATURAL and active like any young girl out there. And I absolutely love the way she looks <3

And here are some photo of cosplay idol joinforce!!!
Photobucket

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Apparently, they both look a lot like dolls, and dolls in DOD particularly. (Jin resembles an ABJD amazingly).

And it's funny how almost all of these cosplayers (Jin's and Alodia's groups) are mixed-blood. Most of them have Chinese blood (really, I find them no different from Chinese, if you don't then I think your conception of Chinese people might still be tiny eyes and lips and pug noses and so... please update your concept on modern Chinese people!). On dA, Jin said to have Chinese blood, Alodia said she's 1/8 Chinese 1/4 Spanish (I don't find her Spainish at all though) and the rest is Filipino blood (actually based on this I had a fun time drawing out her family's possible pedigrees; I'm sorry!!!). And people say that members in their groups also are mixed-blood and it also seems that way. I've seen quite many Filipinos on TV and they all look different from them. Are these cosplayer more beautiful (I admit so) 'coz they have mixed ancestry, which the Chinese blood seems to be the one that has the biggest effect on how they look??? It's kinda a sad thing that way. I really did not know that Philippines has the highest number of Eurasians, I don't about overall mixed-ancestry though. But it's still funny how some groups like this consists only mixed-bloods...

Cosplay/Net idol problems

Though just being cosplay/net idol, they are already very popular, and those kinds of celebrity problem do happen. Apparent cases: Imposters of Jin and Tux team and Alodia's dA account hack case. So be prepared and extra careful if you wanna be a popular person ^^''

Japanese cosplay idols

I wanna put some photos of Japanese cosplay idols in this entry as a side note. They would be Arisa and Kipi as many of you have already know. They are really cute and seem to fit for any girl cosplay role. However, what I don't like about them is, they fit every role because of their cuteness, not because of resembling, so it's ... NO FUN, NO INTERESTING.

Okay, after all these photos of cosplay idols, I've seen some common points. Maybe we can make ourselves better by targeting these point???

Huge eyes, thin/small lips, bright skin and kawaii. Well, can you get those traits??? (Don't cry just yet! For tiny eyes, there's always Ichimaru Gin for you, dark skinned? there's always Chado for ya etc etc hehe jk)

As some last words, I wanna thank these cosplay idols for having such good cosplay photos which so many of us enjoyed. Great job!!!

The first "v ideo game cosplay"
If you're looking to put a correct caption on that, here you go: it's actually the angel Alexiel from the manga (and later a much shittier anime) Angel Sanctuary.

All the best

Cosplay Queens and Kings comment
I particularly like this blog entry because unlike most of the Filipinos that's been overly-obsessing about Alodia and the others, you're trying to keep things real.

There is a boundary between fandom and obsession. They aren't perfect, believe me. I've been in the business for the longest time now, and they all, as I have witnessed, originated from little kids who just wanted to dress up.

And I think it's just plain obscene when fans wanted to be them. A fan's opinion is biased, let's all accept that. So whatever idols do to raise money like sell their used PSP for a higher price than the usual, or create dolls based on their looks, fans will love them even more.

It's also applies when idols try to confuse people about having a twin and try to give some complicated explanation about it. The fans aren't dumb. (well okay, MAYBE majority of them are, but not ALL of them) They may be biased, but not dumb. And I hope others can realize that.

Cosplay is a cycle. After cosplayers served their part, they become legends. People will remember them until somebody else, with more glitter and impact, comes.

Anyway, in the long run, things will just stop. There'll be a day where they'll not be as 'benta' with their fans as they did now. They'll just wake up one day and realize that no one notices them anymore. They'll be too old. (Trust me, I personally know the awesome-est cosplay legend ever.)

The fame's not forever. When the cameras stop flashing in their direction, that means someone new had shown up. That's how it was, and that's how it's been.

Very good entry. I know this was posted awhile ago but I wanted to reply and say how neutrally you approached writing this! I was glad to read it. :)

Do you have any interest in western cosplay idols at all? I like Yaya Han and Miyu the best. Miyu is the most gorgeous cosplayer I've ever seen in my life from any country. You should see her Velvet from Odin Sphere its amazing. She makes Alodia look average! Yaya Han has the most high quality costumes I've ever seen and she makes them all herself. I think she's the only cosplayer in the world that has turned cosplay into a full-time job AND makes her own costumes AND has over a 100 costumes she made! Yaya isn't as pretty as Miyu or Alodia but she is ok looking.

Hope you have a great day! Take care. :>

I didn't know that Jin and Aloida are both Filipinos. They hardly look like Filpinos, especially Aloida. Gosh, that picture of her in that kimono? She definitely looks Chinese there.

Oh, and that first picture of Aloida you posted is not from a video game, but from an anime called Angel Sanctuary.

I'm kind of pissed off to know that small lips are the ideal. It's ironic, since everyone else has been praising big lips that cosmetic companies even sell limp plumpers. I have big lips, and I'm not sure if they'll look good for achieving that perfect cosplay effect that Aloida seems to radiate. Same for light skin. blaaah I tried Likas Papaya, and it hardly works lol.
